Tips for the Perfect Digital Detox- Advice from DougMovesYou

It might be hard to imagine being away from your phone for more than a few minutes. Or maybe you’ve felt the panic of not knowing where your phone is. As heavily as we rely on our technology, it might be difficult to envision living without it.

However, implementing steps to “digital detox” can help reduce your stress and increase your creativity. Here are tips for the perfect digital detox.

Schedule Your Screen Time

Consider scheduling specific times for disconnecting, as well as for catching up on digital media. Set times for checking email and social media, especially on the weekends (or don’t do it at all). This will help you squash the need to be constantly checking in.

Remove Distractions

It’s easy to be distracted by all the alerts, beeps, buzzes, and notifications that pop up on your phone and computer. For better focus and less stress, consider shutting of those notifications and creating a more distraction-free environment.

Power Down Before Bed

You can have your own miniature digital detox every night before bed. You should try to shut off all your electronic devices an hour before bed. Try putting your phone on airplane mode or leaving it in a central location to recharge.

Try an Electronic Fast

Consider setting aside a period of time to have an electronic fast. Pick a day, a weekend, or even a whole week to step away from your electronics. Even better, get the whole family involved and have everybody turn off and tune out.

Take Time to Reflect

After you complete your time-out, notice how you feel. Discuss what the experience was like with a friend or family member or journal about it. Observe if you feel more calm and centered, sleep better or feel otherwise.
