Colorado golf course communities regularly make Top 10 lists for the most desirable properties for homeowners in America. So let’s take a realistic look at both sides to determine if living on a golf course is right for you:

The Advantages of Living on a Golf Course

There are many great advantages to living on a golf course. Golf course living offers a lifestyle that isn’t found anywhere else and it could be a perfect fit for your lifestyle:

  • Recreation at Your Fingertips
Every course offering is different, but many offer benefits like clubhouses, saunas, gyms, swimming pools, tennis courts and regular community social events. Plus, you can often go tee off at just about any time you choose.
  • Improve Your Game
Living on a golf course means that you can play any time you want and improve your game. Professionals recommend that a beginner golfer play at least twice a week to see improvement in their game.
  • Stay Active
In the Denver Metro Area, many courses offer nearby access to trails for hiking, mountain biking, climbing, running, bird-watching and picnics. Sometimes, communities have complimentary membership agreements with other facilities, as a bonus.
  • Safe Community Living
Some golf communities have gate guards and surveillance equipment. This will give you peace of mind and assurance that you and your property are well looked after.
  • Network and Make New Friends
Many golfers prefer, and tend to spend time, with other golfers because they enjoy the same passion for the game. These golf communities will provide grounds for sociable living and endless fun.
  • Learning Young
Golf isn’t just for retirees. Some kids start playing at five, or younger, and golf is a great way for kids to stay physically active and it will also stimulate mental and disciplinary growth.
  • Growing and Maintaining Property Value
Golf courses are immaculate because the staff spends a lot of time and money maintaining their standards. Beautiful courses help resell value and curb appeal. This, plus the amenities provided, will help keep property values high.
Potential Disadvantages of Living on a Golf Course

Golf course living comes with endless benefits but it’s also important to be realistic about potential disadvantages of being part of a golf course community.  Knowing about these issues in advance helps you decide if it’s a good community choice for you:

  • Noise
Maintenance, like mowing or sprinklers, is an inevitable part of golf course living. You might also hear golf carts and groups of golfers walking past and chattering loudly. However, noise issues could exist in any neighborhood.
  • Those Pesky Wandering Balls
Your home can be struck with unruly golf balls which can result in damage like battered deck chairs or broken windows. Some HOAs will require special coverage for homeowners on a golf course. Deductibles for this insurance can range from $200 to $1,000 and your agent can help pick the right coverage for you without breaking the bank.
  • Living in Privacy
Depending on where your home is located on the course, golfing groups may be walking past your home and looking in which can be bothersome to some owners. However, some homeowners may enjoy socializing with other golfers and watching their games.
  • Homeowners Association and Restrictions
An HOA often governs golf course homes with regulations that are bound by firm protocols. Be aware of these rules and read the fine print. However, this is a reality and it is always wise to do discovery of any HOA community.
