The home buying search should be fun.  It should also be an efficient use of the buyer’s time, and rewarding in that they find the perfect home that fulfills their needs and wants.  This may sound like a tall order, but following six simple suggestions can make all the difference. Let’s take a look at the first three today:

  1. Analyze your lifestyle

Start by creating a list that reflects the lifestyle you’re looking to attain. For example:  will you be doing more (or less) entertaining? Is yard work or gardening something you enjoy or something you’d like to eliminate? Do you have frequent guests staying at your home? By identifying your lifestyle in detail, you’re helping your agent zero in on finding only houses that meet your needs.

  1. Get pre-approved

Getting pre-approved for a loan will keep you from wasting valuable time looking at homes you can’t afford.  It will also increase your negotiating position and speed up the entire process.

  1. Stick to your requirements

It’s always fun to look at more costly homes than you can afford, but save yourself the time and anguish of visiting those properties.  Also, if you visit a property and quickly determine it doesn’t meet your needs or you just don’t like it, don’t feel obligated to finish the tour.

Next week, we can look into the final three tips into making your home search a wise and profitable process.
