The Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) offers free days at many top museums and attractions in Denver each month. Take advantage of free admission at the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Denver Zoo.

You may also use a free day to explore one of Denver’s lesser known museums, like the historic Molly Brown House Museum and the Denver Firefighters Museum. You can use this calendar for SCFD free days to plan your next visit.

Colorado State Capitol Tour

You can take a free tour of Colorado State Capitol every Monday through Friday. Be sure to visit the steps of the west entrance, where a seal marks Denver’s official elevation of 5,280 feet, or one mile above sea level. You’ll learn about all kinds of Colorado history and you can even talk to a gallery guide about the legislative process.

Denver Mint

The Denver Mint, open since 1906, is the single largest producer of coins in the world. Enjoy a fun lesson on Colorado history and coin production. Free guided tours are offered six times daily.

Tattered Cover Bookstore

Tattered Cover Bookstore, Denver’s most historic bookshop, has three Denver locations to visit. The bookstores are cozy and have amazing selections of books. Be sure to check out the large children’s book area, as well as the Colorado authors sections.

Take a Brewery Tour

A tour of one of Denver’s local breweries can be an excellent way to enjoy Colorado culture at its finest. The city’s first brewpub, Wynkoop Brewing Company, offers tours Tuesdays through Saturdays at 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm.  The Great Divide Brewing Company offers tours every day of the week, with no reservations required. You’ll be able to sample any of the beers on tap or in bottles and may even be lucky enough to try a Tap Room-only special release. Denver Microbrew Tour offers walking tours of multiple breweries, including plenty of samples.

First Friday Art Walk

The Art District on Santa Fe runs their First Fridays from 6–9 pm the first Friday of every month. Enjoy free entry into 30 participating galleries and artist studios. You can also enjoy plenty of restaurant specials and food carts. The River North Arts District also hosts First Fridays, and you can expect to find plenty of special events, from art openings to live music.

Celestial Seasonings Tour

Celestial Seasonings in Boulder is known as the world’s most advanced tea production plant. Daily tours are free and last about an hour. You’ll get to see how all of the delicious teas are made, and even take whiff of the peppermint room. Free samples are offered at every turn.


Littleton History Museum

The Littleton History Museum features a permanent gallery that depicts the “Littleton Story” from settlement to present, including living history farms with costumed interpreters. Kids will love the Kids Connection, which provides interactive hands-on exhibits.
